Timp Cave with Mrs. Peck

Submitted by lyndsee.brice on
5th grade had the awesome opportunity to hike up to Timp Cave this year. Since we study Earth's Surfaces, it was a perfect chance to see weathering and erosion in nature. We were able to see a Karst environment that was full of caves made out of limestone, Jabba the Hut, helictites, stalagmites, stalactites, lichens, fault lines, uplift, etc. Mr. Earl's and Mrs. Nielson's class got a chance to go first. Mrs. Peck's class got rained out (literally along with rock slides), but were able to go a week later.

Shapes, Shapes, Shapes

Submitted by lyndsee.brice on

For the past 2 weeks we have been having fun learning all about 2-D shapes.  We read books about shapes, went on a shape hunt around the school and learned some fun new shape songs.  On Friday, we had a great time working with a partner to build shape pictures.  What amazing kids we have in kindergarten.

What a great turnout we had on Monday, September 15, at the PTA sponsored Family Reading Frenzy Pajama Party.  Every child received a free book from our awesome PTA!!! Refreshments were served in the lunchroom. A popular rotation was in the Collaboration Center with the BYU athletes. One of our special guest readers was Lela the Puppeteer. Mrs. Taylor, Cherry Creek's secretary, shared a story in the library. For a Spanish option, Miss Ferguson shared her talent. ELSA was another guest reader.

United Way Day of Caring

Submitted by lyndsee.brice on

United Way and Questar teamed up to make a wonderful Day of Caring. Volunteers from United Way repainted the playground games such as hopscotch, the United States Map, and four square. Questar cleaned up a lot of our school, especially on the west side of the building. They took out old plants and weeds and replaced areas with fresh soil. Thank you so much to United Way and Questar for making Cherry Creek look even more beautiful!

Who Says Math Isn't Tasty

Students were able to roll up their sleeves and dive into a delicious lesson on place value. Using marshmallows and fruit loops students were able to use their knowledge to create six-digit numbers and determine the value of each digit. It was educational and delicious!
