The 1st graders performed their annual play "The Little Blue Train" on Wednesday night. The auditorium was packed and the kids did a phenomenal job! We are so proud of them!

Thank you to all the Cherry Creek Students who played in the Art City Chess Tournament this last Saturday and a big Congratulations to Ti Smartt who took 8th place in the 3rd grade division!!!

4th grade has started their unit on equivalent fractions. Students worked with partners, used fraction blocks and their math notebooks to discover the concept behind equivalent fractions.

Congratulations to Ms. Lowe for being recognized as the 2014 School Psychology Student of the Year by the Utah Association of School Psychologists. We are so lucky to have her here at Cherry Creek! Thanks for all of your hard work Ms. Lowe!

Mrs. Golding's class has a great time learning about Synonyms! They got to wear  chef hats and walk around to find the person that had the synonym to the word they had in their "Synonym Roll." Then, of course, they got to eat them up!!

How does one mummify apples? The 6th graders found out this week as they studied Ancient Egypt in social studies. By using the scientific method, 6th graders researched about the mummifying process, gathered materials and formed a hypothesis. Math was integrated when we used only a 1/4 measuring cup to measure out different quantities of supplies and converting the new weights of the apples to a percentage as they dried out . The last step will be for students to write about what they learned from this experiment.

Cherry Creek had 170 students with perfect attendance-meaning 0 absences AND 0 tardies-for Term 1. They were able to celebrate this morning by having hot chocolate and donuts. This is SUCH an awesome accomplishment because attendance is one of Cherry Creek's biggest goals this year. Way to go Crocs-maybe we will have more for Term 2!

Students at Cherry Creek were fortunate to have Thomas from the Clark Planetarium visit today and teach all about science. He demonstrated air pressure, static electricity, tornado of fire and colors of stars using pyrotechnics! All the students were able to hold and pass around a very heavy meteorite. The 6th graders had even more time with him using clickers to answer questions about seasons and moon phases. #clarkplanetarium
