Not only did BYU come to help with the new library celebration, BYU also sent over some of their athletes, the Dunk Team and Cosmo to help present Cougar Built. BYU athletes talked about becoming a well rounded person by incorporating the ideas of Built to Love, Built to Lean, Built to Work and Built to Connect. One activity they did was to pick 6 students to give BYU tshirts to. Each student received two shirts…one for themselves and one to share…helping to remember to think of others and not only of themselves…that goes along with our Habit 4: Think Win-Win!
Lots of exciting things happened at Cherry Creek yesterday! With the generous donations and support of BYU, the BIG 12, the College Football Foundation, Extra Yard for Teachers, Donors Choose and School Specialty, Cherry Creek got a Library Makeover! These corporations wanted to create a space to help students succeed. In the words of one presenter, “the beauty of this room is that everything here can take you anywhere in the world you want to go.
Cherry Creek Crocs showed their Leader in Me thinking when stuck indoors for a rainy day lunch recess. Putting Habit 4, Think Win-Win, into action, these students chose to help make Valentine’s Day and Birthday Cards for the Seniors serviced by Meals on Wheels. Using stickers and cardboard chip hearts, they created and finished 80 cards. They had so much fun that they are looking forward to another inside lunch recess day so they can do it again! Service is fun!
Mrs. Hardman’s 2nd Grade Class tried a fun science experiment. In this lesson, students were considering the insulating and conducting properties of different materials. Students tested different materials (cloth socks, foil and styrofoam) to determine which would make the best oven mitts. They made mittens out of socks, foil and used the styrofoam cups to pick up hot and cold water bottles. They had to determine if they could feel the heat (or cold) through each kind of material.
Mrs Jensen’s 1st Grade class takes the Spirit Day Trophy with ALL of her students wearing Red or Cherry Creek attire! Congratulations! Thanks for showing your school spirit!
Greetings, Cherry Creek!
