United Way Day of Caring

Submitted by jan.grotegut on

Day of Caring is an annual day of service that takes place on the second Thursday of September. United Way invites organizations across the county to come together in completing various projects that benefit the community, with over 1,500 volunteers completing over 60 service projects. Volunteers from United Way and BYU came to Cherry Creek to repaint some fun playground activities like Mirror Me, Hopscotch and other colorful activities.  We were surprised to find out that one of the volunteers from BYU was a dad of one of our own Cherry Creek Crocs.  Thanks Mr. Walch!

Our First WIG:  All students will earn 2 Croc Claws during the year.  A Croc Claw is given to a student when they exhibit living one of the Covey 7 Habits at school:  Be Proactive, Begin With the End in Mind, Put First Things First, Think Win-Win, Seek First to Understand Then to Be Understood, Synergize, Sharpen the Saw and Find Your Voice.  Our 2nd WIG is for each student to earn a ticket each week for the Reading Carnival in the Spring.

Cultures of Utah

Submitted by jan.grotegut on

Yesterday, we celebrated the Cultures of Utah.  Many students represented their cultures dressing as Cowboys, Pioneers, Native Americans, as well as skiers, soccer players and firefighters.  Autumn,  shown in the middle picture, is of American Indian descent through her Great Grandmother.  She wore an Indian dress and leather moccasins that she believes belonged to her Great Grandmother.  It’s been a great week learning about the different cultures of the world and of Utah.

Cultures of the World Assembly

Submitted by jan.grotegut on

Cherry Creek Crocs ended the day with an assembly featuring Cultures of the World.  Cami Estrada & Kellon Sines, from the Lighthouse Team, highlighted different parts of the world where some of Cherry Creek’s student are from.  They shared information about ethnic foods, holidays, music, language, sports, and more interesting facts.  Mrs. Deardeuff shared her love for Scottish Bagpipe music with the Garden Valley Pipe Band.  A Big Croc shout out to Vera Hamilton and Robert Baxter for joining Mrs. Deardeuff.
