Mrs. Truscott's class has a fun basic engineering task that not only allowed students to complete a friendly class competition, it gave them authentic practice with communication and negotiation skills, as well as using the habit of synergizing.
Each team was given a single piece of construction paper, scissors, and one yard of masking tape. In fifteen minutes their team needed to construct the longest paper chain possible. They quickly found that the longer and skinnier the links, the longer the chain. Great job using so many skills on a fun task! We sure hope some of these students go on to choose engineering and construction careers.
