Youth Art Competiton

This year's Youth Art Competition will be displayed in conjunction with both the 37th Annual Spiritual and Religious Art of Utah and The Most Noble Subject. As such, the prompt for this year's exhibition explores the concept of inspiration. We encourage students to consider the following when exploring possible subject matter:

  • Where do you find inspiration?
  • Why do you create?
  • What do you think makes life meaningful?                                                                                               The exhibition will be located in the Ingrid Nemelka Gallery on the Main Floor of the Museum from November 18th, 2023, through December 30th, 2023. The Museum will select a number of works to be included in the exhibition. Of those selected for display, a small number will be chosen for cash prizes!

The works will be judged by the SMA Education staff and are to be original and individually conceived by the students, rather than class projects. No works will be considered if they contain glitter, candy, glued-on beans, macaroni, or similar materials that tend to fall off when handled or invite pests into the Museum.

Teachers and parents may bring entries to the Museum from Thursday, November 2nd through Friday, November 4th from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. As a result of the growing popularity of this show, we ask each school to limit their entries to no more than 100. Each student is limited to one entry. It is necessary to fill out and attach the included entry card attached to this email with each work – clearly listing the artist’s first and last name, home phone number, parent email, grade, school, and teacher’s name and email. The entry cards should be attached to the back of the work. Works without fully completed entry cards attached will not be considered for the exhibition.

A list of accepted works will be posted on SMofA.org on Wednesday, November 8th, 2023, by 5:00 pm. We will contact each award winner to invite them to a private award ceremony Saturday, November 18th. Students in the exhibition who do not receive awards will be invited to join us for an opening reception on the same day.

You are also invited to visit the Museum during regular hours throughout December to see the selected works on display. Artwork should be picked up by January 31st, 2024, art will not be retained after that date.

A copy of the promotional flyer has been attached to this email if you would like to distribute it throughout your school as well as to friends or family.

We look forward to working with you on this special project! If you have any questions, please refer to www.SMofA.org, email CHunter [at] springville.org (CHunter[at]springville[dot]org), or call 801-491-5717.
