Unit Rate Reteach Relay

Submitted by sarah.sumsion on
A sixth grade reteach group today had an exciting relay game to fine tune their math skills of finding unit rate. Teams of 4 had to race across the playing field, grab a math question, such as "21 oz of Cheerios for $2.99", calculate the unit rate, then race back across the field to place their answer in the right sorting bucket. The students did great solving real-world math problems, had fun in the sun and showed good sportsmanship.

Race to the Top

Submitted by sarah.sumsion on
Mrs. Bergera's Kindergarten class had a great time on Tuesday working with a partner to play a fun new math game. This week we are working with the numbers 0-5. To help each student practice writing the numbers 0-5, each partner had to take turns rolling a dot cube, counting the dots, and writing the numbers 0-5 on their paper. The first person who wrote all the numbers to the top won!! What great kids we have in Kindergarten!!

Preschool Shape Swatters

This week in preschool the students learned to identify shapes in a fun way! Shapes were scattered all over the floor, and the students had to run around and hit specific shapes with a flyswatter. They loved it!

Sixth Grade Scientists

The sixth graders had their first field trip to the Clark Planetarium in SLC. Students were able to explore many science interactives and space activities. In the Dome Theater students and teachers watched a presentation on seasons, constellations, answered interactive science questions and rode a space roller coaster! It was so real that some students felt they were really moving. The students behaved really well there then walked to a grassy park for lunch. Go to the Cherry Creek Facebook page for more pictures!

Walk to School Day

Submitted by sarah.sumsion on
Students and parents were encouraged to walk to school on Wedneaday, October 9, in conjunction with Health and Safety Week. Students flooded down the sidewalk and bikes and scooters abounded. For students who ride the bus to school or were much too far away to walk safely, a route around the school grounds was provided for them to walk before school. The PTA handed out stickers and suckers for students who participated in Walk to School Day.

Scooter Tricks at Safety Week

Submitted by sarah.sumsion on
Health and Safety Week at Cherry Creek was a great success. We had the Fullmers from Legions Custom Skate Shop teach students about scooter, skateboarding and bike safety, especially wearing helmets!! Travis, another guest, demonstrated incredibly awesome tricks he can do on his scooter, from wheelies to jumping a cone to a 360 as well as a bunny hop, and the crowd favorite, an intel flip, or as Austin Mortensen calls it, a Super Loopie Doopie.
