We Lead: Begin With the End in Mind for Friday Fun Day

Submitted by janelle.barrett on

We do Friday Fun Day in 5th grade for the students who get their homework done. Since there are three 5th grade classes it works perfectly. If you get your homework done you get to play capture the flag. If you do not get your homework done you go to one of the 5th grade classrooms to read or do math. It helps the students begin with the end in mind and want to get their homework done so they can have a chance to have extra fun.

We Learn: Math March Madness

Submitted by janelle.barrett on

It's that time of year when the brackets come out, and the championship games begin! But at Cherry Creek, the competition isn't to see which 3rd-6th grade students are the best at basketball, but at remembering their multiplication math facts. This past week, every student in 3rd-6th grade competed for spots in the Sweet 16 round. Prizes get a little bit bigger as each round progresses. Let the games begin!

National School Breakfast Week

Submitted by janelle.barrett on

Last week was National School Breakfast Week, and our amazing lunch room staff made it a fun and motivating week for the kids. The best day was Friday when the teachers were invited to enjoy breakfast with their students in the cafeteria. The kids were so excited to see their teachers coming to eat with them! They had big smiles on their faces as they grabbed a tray and found a seat by their teacher. Breakfast is such an important thing to get your day started off right!

We Learn: Robotics, Continued

Submitted by janelle.barrett on

The fun of working with robots continues this week as our high school student instructors from Springville High School teach us about the many parts that make a robot work! We had a chance to work on assembling the parts, which was a fun challenge!

We Lead: Student Mentors

Submitted by janelle.barrett on

One of the many student jobs available for students to apply for is the role of a student mentor. This job is reserved for students in upper grades, and allows them a chance to mentor a student in a younger grade. The mentors help students catch up on homework or get extra reading practice, all while building new friendships.

We Learn: SHS Students Teach Robotics and Coding

Submitted by janelle.barrett on

This year students from Springville High School are coming to our school and teaching 5th graders about robots and programming them. The students are programming finches, or little robots, to do things like move forward and backward and even spin. It is a really cool experience to learn how to do all of these cool things. They help all of the kids to learn how to make the robot move and talk. This is helping us learn and it is an amazing experience for these students. The high school students are helping our program. It is super fun.

We Inspire: Birthday Nice Notes

Submitted by janelle.barrett on

We do our best to spread kindness and inspire friendship. Whenever someone in our class has a birthday, they sit at the front of the room while everyone comes up to the smart board to write something kind about them. It's a great way to lift each other up--especially on someone's birthday!
