The first ever 6th grade Engineering Fair was held today, and students were interviewed and judged by volunteer engineers! In years past, 6th graders would participate in the Science Fair to learn about the scientific method. Since a change in the core curriculum this year, students now learn science with a focus on engineering and problem solving. The requirements were simple: think of a problem you face in daily living, and build a product that will help with that problem. They documented their materials, processes, and trials to find out if their product was effective. What they came up with was impressive to see!
