Student Lighthouse Kickoff

The Cherry Creek Student Lighthouse Kickoff was a huge success! Each teacher selected a student leader to be their lighthouse representative for their class. This year, 3rd through 6th grade lighthouse reps participated in a kickoff. Students were first tied together by their wrists and challenged to try to eat a root beer float. They had to get creative to find a way to work together. Next the group learned what was expected and the purpose of the lighthouse team. The students broke into 3 groups and rotated through break out sessions taught by Mrs. Gast, Mr. Duncan and Ms. Ferguson on problem solving, presenting and speaking, notable leaders and valuable leadership qualities. Mrs. Sumsion provided team building activities between each session where students had to guide a blindfolded student to find their matching shoe, silently communicate to come up with 21 fingers as a team, and a getting-to-know-you game. Students wrapped things up getting a special lighthouse team folder and were given their first assignment. We are very excited about this fantastic group of leaders we have at our school on the lighthouse team this year. Kindergarten through 2nd grade student lighthouse reps will join the team in January.
